Joshua Akers is an Associate Professor of Geography and Urban and Regional Studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He is the founder and director of the Urban Praxis Workshop. His research and writing examines the intersection of housing markets and public policy and the material impact on everyday life. He is a contributing editor for Metropolitics, a journal of public scholarship. Prior to academic work, Akers was an award-winning journalist for the Associated Press and the Albuquerque Journal writing on state politics and urban growth and development. He lives in Detroit.
